Film Spiderman is a direct sequel to the successful animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). Which has been highly anticipat by fans. The film, which is also often call Spider-Verse 2, will still focus again on the Miles Morales version of Spidey. Where Miles’ adventures will be much more intense later. Interestingly, even though it is present in animated form. Recently the senior animator of Spider-Verse 2 revealed that the film he was working on was not for small children.
As a reminder, back in 2018 when the first Spider-Verse film was releas. Sony deliberately presented the film with a PG rating or parental guidance. Which means that when watching this Miles Morales film. Parents are encourag to accompany their children because there may be content in it that is not intend for young children. The same thing seems to be appli to Spider-Verse 2, which will tell about Miles’ adventures in the multiverse with his crush, Spider-Gwen. With the multiverse, there are many potential threats that await Miles in the film.
In his interview with The Direct, senior animator Spider-Verse 2 Era Santos reveal that in the film there will a number of characters that not meant for young audiences. “A number of the character choices we made made us think ‘What? Okay, okay. This isn’t a kids film, is it? I don’t think this is a children’s film. OK good. Yes, this is good.’ So this really fun for me,” said Santos when sharing his experience working on Spider-Verse 2.
Furthermore, Santos also explained that this sequel film would be more intense than before. He also felt that compared to Spider-Verse 2, the first film felt “very small and insignificant.” According to him, one of the reasons why this could happen is because Miles’ second adventure has “something he has never seen before,” especially the animation style of the film.
At the end of his statement, Santos said that he couldn’t wait to see the world’s reaction when the Spider-Verse 2 film was releas. Based on what he said, it seems that Santos wants to emphasize that what he has been working on is not a children’s film like animated films in general. Even so, children can still watch it while accompanied by their parents. We can watch the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse film on June 2, 2023.
